Richard Catchpole
Managing Director
Richard founded Whitbarrow Consulting on the back of 30 years experience in the chemical manufacturing industry. From grass roots engineering and production management to international business and business and board leadership roles, Richard has done it all. Now assisting others to achieve their business dreams is his motivation, acting as chair and business adviser to companies and not-for-profit sectors alike.

After studying Chemical Engineering at Birmingham University, he entered UK industry with ICI (remember them?!). 15 years in production and site management in the UK & US was followed by 15 years in global business management as MD and CEO of €100m speciality chemical company Akcros Chemicals, working through the EU and Americas and expanding the company to manufacture in Asia Pacific.

Catherine Catchpole
Health and Safety Director
With 26 years experience in the field, Catherine joined Whitbarrow Consulting in 2020 to provide impartial, independent health and safety consultancy to UK-based businesses. Aiming to take the complexity out of health and safety compliance, and to ensure all companies can operate with confidence, her background in the Health & Safety Executive gives some key insights to effective safety management.

A chartered Chemical Engineer and a member of IOSH Catherine started work as a Chemical Engineer for AstraZeneca in 1989. She joined the HSE in 1993 to pursue a career in health and safety, advising companies in managing their risks in the workplace. Initially as a Regulatory Inspector and later as a Process Safety Specialist Inspector she gained experience across a wide range of industries including the major hazard sector. Catherine also has extensive experience in the investigation of accidents and incidents.
